Close a Business

  • To close all businesses with Sales Tax, Use Tax, and/or Commerce Tax accounts, complete the Close Account Form
    • Note: This form does not close or cancel any other state or local registrations. The Department will not close your MBT account. 
  • The Close Account Form includes the required information with instructions to cancel your account and refund any security deposit or credits to which you may be entitled.
  • For any other account updates including changing locations, contact the Call Center at (866) 962-3707.
  • To close your Modified Business Tax (MBT), you must also contact the Employment Security Division (ESD) at (775) 684-6300 and provide the date of your last payroll to close your Unemployment Insurance (UI) account.
  • Once your UI account is closed with ESD, your MBT account will be closed with the Department.
  • You are required to file all returns up to the date the business ceased payroll, whether or not the business had wages to report during the reporting period.
