Company Identifier to Prevent Debit Blocking on ACH Debits/e-Checks

A debit block is a form of fraud prevention that protects your bank accounts from unauthorized electronic charges. If you have established a debit block with your financial institution on the bank account you use to remit tax payments, you need to communicate with your bank to authorize debit payments to the Nevada Department of Taxation. Your bank will process only these authorized transactions.

To ensure that your debit payments to the Nevada Department of Taxation are successful, you or your financial officer should:

  1. Speak with your bank before setting up a debit payment.
  2. Provide the company identifier (company ID) and name to your bank.

Note: If you do not provide the company ID and name listed below, your bank may reject the payment and the Nevada Department of Taxation may send you a bill for the amount due, including penalty and interest.

All ACH debit payments made through My Nevada Tax, including Modified Business Tax and Commerce Tax, beginning December 8, 2025, should use a company ID of P886000022.

Pay by Mail:

  • Send a check or money order to:
    Department of Taxation

    Carson City NV 89706

Pay in Person:

How long does it take for a tax payment to clear?

  • During the months April, July, October, and January, the Department gets a high volume of tax returns and payments because these months line up with the deadlines for monthly, quarterly, and yearly filings.
  • Because of the high number of submissions, processing might take longer than usual.
  • It might take up to 15 days for your check to be processed and cleared from your account.
  • If it’s been over 15 days and your payment still hasn’t gone through, please get in touch with your local Department of Taxation office before you consider canceling the payment.

What if I make a mistake and need to amend my tax return?

You can file an amended return for any period at any time—there’s no deadline for doing so. However, if your amended return shows that you overpaid, you can only get that money back if the return is postmarked within 3 years after the last day of the month following the period in which the overpayment was made (unless the period is being audited and a waiver is granted under NRS 360.355). This rule applies to:

  • Sales and Use Tax (including abatements)
  • Modified Business Tax (General, Financial Institution, and Mining)
  • Commerce Tax
  • Gold and Silver Excise Tax
  • Live Entertainment Tax
  • Transportation Connection Tax
  • Medical and Adult-Use Cannabis Taxes
  • Tire Surcharge Fee

If you file an amended return after the deadline, we will still process it, but any overpayment will go to the State General Fund instead of being refunded or credited to you.

If you need to make changes or corrections to a tax return for Sales and Use, Consumer Use, Cigarette & Other Tobacco Products, Liquor and Live Entertainment Tax, you can amend your return through My Nevada Tax.

If you need to make changes or corrections to a tax return for Modified Business or Commerce Tax, you should send an ‘amended return’ to the Department. This updated return should clearly show the adjustments you’re making.

Use the following steps to amend your tax return:

  • Include a copy of the original return.
  • Check the box next to “Check this box if this is an amended return for the specified filing period.
  • Cross out the original numbers that you want to change using black ink, making sure the numbers can still be read.
  • Enter the corrected numbers, in black ink, next to or above the crossed-out number.
  • Write in the credit amount you’re claiming or the amount you owe.
  • Attach a written explanation and any supporting documents (like credit memos, exemption certificates, adjustments, etc.) that justify your changes.
  • If you end up with a credit from the amended return, it will automatically go towards any current or future taxes you owe, unless you ask for a refund. Make sure to indicate on your amended return if you want a refund.

Where do I send my amended return?
